很多女孩在跟我聊天的時候提到，失眠很嚴重、睡不好，怕睡前喝酵素半夜起來上廁所影響睡眠。我的回答是，睡眠不好的人更要睡前吃酵素，只是妳要把吃酵素的時間提早。

人體裡有一個激素叫做血清素，它會影響我們的情緒，是會讓心情變好的荷爾蒙，90%是由腸道所製造的，所以，情緒不好跟腸道不健康有很大的關係。無論是妳自己、妳的另外一半，或是妳的家人有時候會不耐煩、很暴躁、容易憂鬱負面，也許不一定是他能控制的，而是體內的血清素不足在作祟。

憂鬱症除了受到外在環境影響情緒，腦部傳遞快樂訊息的神經傳導物質「血清素」不足，也會讓人快樂不起來，因此，有些抗憂鬱藥的作用，就是在試圖增加腦中這項神經傳導物質的濃度。然而，身體製造血清素部份過程在腸道，腸道中的細菌負責生產出製造血清素的原料，再送到腦部，如果腸道因為不健康而缺乏特定的細菌，血清素的產能就會降低了。

沒錯！血清素的原料，有90%以上都是由腸道中的細菌負責製造，如果腸道不健康，就沒有原料，當然沒有快樂的訊息可以傳遞到腦部，人就會變得很負面。

我們腸胃道內有一群微生物，稱作Psychobiome，他們可能會影響妳的腦，進而影響妳的心情、思考、行為與舉止。未來或許能透過調控這些微生物(增加/減少他們的數量、或是改變他們的行為)，來治療像是憂鬱症或是失眠等精神方面的疾病。

透過調節微生物組成，緩解腦功能退化


科學家做實驗讓實驗鼠的腸道菌叢不健康、壞菌非常的多，就讓小老鼠表現出很焦慮煩躁的情緒，甚至腦部開始退化。

2017年(研究連結)一份關於微生物對於老化的腦功能影響研究。科學家比較不同年紀小老鼠的腦功能，發現小老鼠腸道的微生物組成，會隨著年紀增加而改變，而當微生物生態失衡，就會危害到免疫功能，例如造成腦部神經發炎，使老化小老鼠表現出焦慮、腦部退化等症狀。

在得知微生物組成與腦功能之間的關聯後，研究團隊下一步想知道透過調節微生物菌相，能不能緩解宿主腦部退化的進展，這次的實驗對象是「中年危機」的認知退化小老鼠。他們餵食這些小老鼠能促進益生菌生長的菊糖(inulin)，成功緩解中年小老鼠的腦功能退化情形。此外，發表於《Nature Aging》的研究，他們更直接將年輕小老鼠的腸道微生物移植到老年老鼠體內，發現老年老鼠的認知能力、免疫能都大幅改善。
